Catholic churches in Missouri named in federal civil lawsuit

Eight area catholic churches are named in a federal civil lawsuit filed last week by 11 plaintiffs who say they were sexually abused by clergy members more than 20 years ago. The plaintiffs, who are adults now, say that when they were children in the ’70s and ’80s — they were subjected to sexual abuse by priests, and that the diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau turned a blind eye to the abuse. Catholic churches listed in the lawsuit are St. Peter’s and St. Mary’s in Joplin, St. Ann’s in Carthage, Sacred Heart in Webb City, St. Canera’s in Neosho, along with...

Judge at Black Baptist Convention Calls for Racially Motivated Violence, Says Voting Kamala Will “Glorify God”

The National Baptist Convention of America (NBCA) is one of the largest black religious organizations in the country, often hosting annual gatherings that draw prominent speakers. This year, Louisiana appeals court judge Sharon Wilson took the stage and delivered, unsurprisingly, an inflammatory and politically charged race-baiting speech. Wilson accused Donald Trump of harboring racist motivations and claimed his criticism of Haitian immigrants stemmed from his supposed anger over the Haitian Revolution—an event over 230 years old. Even I was dumbfounded by the sheer stupidity of that claim. The leap in logic here would be laughable if it weren’t so reckless....

Pastor Justin Walker of Salt and Light Baptist Church in La Grange, Kentucky, has opened a tuition-free school after a disturbing experience at a local public library. The incident occurred when Pastor Walker, who was trying to find books for his 11-year-old daughter, was confronted with a display of LGBTQ-themed literature being pushed by the library staff. “I took my daughter to the library… and it was the 1st of June, and they’re pushing all of these LGBTQ books on my daughter,” Walker recalled. “I was so upset… they were trying to give her these books.” Walker took a picture...

I recall in 2016 many posters, from many parts of the country saying that they were seeing lots and lots of Trump signs, very few Clinton signs. What are we seeing now folks? (Vainish)

20 September 2024 at 12:52
It was surprising to hear that in 2016 because Trump was far down in the polls. Are political signs being used like they used to be? Are people (especially Trumpers, afraid of getting attacked if they put up a Trump sign?) I myself have nothing more than an American flag up. I'm in a "mixed" neighborhood (50% Hispanic and other). I live in a conservative area east of Phoenix. I'm not seeing anything but local races signs and Senate race signs. Not much in the way of bumper stickers either. I saw one banner promoting RFK on one house in...

Kamala Harris is a gun owner. Here is what we know

By: CNN
20 September 2024 at 12:50
CNN — Kamala Harris’ revelation at the most recent presidential debate that she is a gun owner caught some viewers by surprise – the vice president has said relatively little over the years about her personal experience of owning a firearm. Responding to Donald Trump’s warning that Harris “wants to confiscate your guns,” the Democratic nominee fired back: “Tim Walz and I are both gun owners. We’re not taking anybody’s guns away. So stop with the continuous lying about this stuff.” And Thursday night, Harris suggested to Oprah Winfrey at a virtual campaign event in Michigan that she would...

Researchers have uncovered fascinating insights into the lives of prehistoric Native Americans who made camp in the Great Lakes region around 13,000 years ago.The camp, now called the Belson site, was set up in what is now southwest Michigan by a small band of people from the Clovis culture, as first reported in a study published in 2021.But now a new study, authored by the same team and published in the online journal PLOS One, has shed new light on the site. The work reveals, among other discoveries, that the Clovis people likely returned to the site annually over several...

As We Fix Our Nation’s Broken Heart,” will kick off in October, according to an announcement. “Now is the moment to understand where we are and what it will take to win: win the broken hearts, win the disenchanted, win the angry spirits — now is the time,” Wonder said last month, during an appearance at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, when Vice President Harris was confirmed as Democrats’...

Figuring Out the Truth Is a Matter of Life or Death

I am a physician and a scientist. Over 12 years, I had the privilege of serving Presidents Barack Obama, Donald Trump and Joe Biden as the director of the National Institutes of Health. Before that, I led the U.S. component of the Human Genome Project. I am amazed by the medical progress that has been possible in the past few decades, both in alleviating suffering and saving lives. But I am also deeply troubled by the growing distrust of science in our society, just at the time when its insights are most needed. No recent experience highlights that disconnect more...

Daily Readings from the USCCBJesus journeyed from one town and village to another, preaching and proclaiming the good news of the Kingdom of God. Accompanying him were the Twelve and some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities… Luke 8:1–2Our Lord was on a mission. He traveled on foot from one town to another, “preaching and proclaiming the good news of the Kingdom of God.” His message truly was “good news.” He healed the sick, cast out demons and, most importantly, He forgave sins. As a result, many began to follow Him. Not only did His followers...

On Antisemitism, It's Scott Jennings Against the CNN World

20 September 2024 at 12:08
The screencap says it all. That's Sarah Longwell, founder of Republican Voters Against Trump, literally pointing her finger [as she repeatedly did] at Republican Scott Jennings on today's CNN This Morning. The subject was antisemitism, and Jennings was quadruple-teamed, with the three panelists plus host Kasie Hunt arguing that right-wing antisemitism is more of a problem than the left-wing version. Far-left activist Maya Wiley summed up the Democrat argument this way: "We cannot compare organized white, extremism -- I'm saying this as white supremacy, neo-Nazism -- and equate that to kids on a college campus struggling with very difficult issues."Funny...

Ron DeSantis: Feds ‘Not Being Cooperative’ with Donald Trump Assassination Investigation

By: Breitbart
20 September 2024 at 12:08
The feds are “not being cooperative” with Florida’s investigation into the second assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) said during a Thursday appearance on the Ingraham Angle. When asked if the feds are cooperating with the investigation and if he is concerned that he is not getting the information needed, DeSantis said, “The answer is no. They’re not being cooperative. “Yes, I am concerned. I mean, for example, we were rebuffed. Our investigators were rebuffed just going to the fence line outside of Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach,” the governor revealed, surmising...

Supreme Court Won’t Restore Green Party to Nevada Ballot

20 September 2024 at 12:04
The U.S. Supreme Court rejected on Sept. 20 the Green Party’s request to restore its candidates to the state ballot for the Nov. 5 election. The new ruling was made after the Nevada Supreme Court ruled 5–2 on Sept. 6 that the party’s candidates could not appear on the ballot because they used the wrong form when gathering ballot-access signatures from the public. The ruling also follows the Nevada State Democratic Party’s challenge of signatures that would have permitted Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein to appear on the ballot. No justices dissented from the new order, nor did they explain...

The Trump Guide to Civil Discourse

The classic example of chutzpah is that of the child who murders his parents and then pleads for mercy as an orphan. With the 2024 presidential election, we have a new way to illustrate the point: the candidate who condones violence, dehumanizes his opponents and whips his supporters into a frenzy, then turns around to condemn the harsh rhetoric of his opponents and call for peaceful discourse. Following the second attempt on his life in as many months, Trump blamed Democrats for casting him as an existential threat to American democracy. “Look,” his running mate JD Vance said on Monday,...
